Antidepressants during pregnancy?
Does anyone know of or has anyone taken any antidepressants during pregnancy? I used to take Cymbalta, but it’s a class C drug and should be avoided during pregnancy. I am going through some serious withdrawl and need something to subside the symptoms. I have spoken to my doctor, and she does not recommend herbal supplements, as there has really been no research on them during pregnancy. She said Prozac has been most heavily researched in pregnant women, but it’s also a class C drug, so I’m a little torn. Also, I’ve taken Prozac in the past with not much success. Any insight would be appreciated.

I took PAXTINE when I fell preg with my 6th and switched to ZOLOFT when my pregnancy was confirmed.
Unrelated to the AD’s but my bub was born at 28weeks gestation. she is a lively 14mth old now.
My 5th bub I took ZOLOFT the enitre pregnancy and had him at 35weeks gestation.
My twin pregnancy I took EFFEXOR (sp?) and carried them to 38weeks.
None of my kidlets have any issues… well… AD related ones anyway LOL.

i was on prozac with my first and had no problems. he was born at 39 weeks, totally healthy, and still shows no signs of problems.

When I found out I was preg my doc told me that Prozac could be continued but that I would have to come off by the third tri because it could cause withdrawl and or other problems with the baby after delivery. I was told that Zoloft was a anti depressant that could be used threwout preg with no complications. If I were you I would have my obgyn and pyco therapist work on a medication that would help you while still being safe for the baby. Prozac should deffinately not be an alternative your obgyn should offer.

My doctor had me on Zoloft while I was pregnant and it was ok for the baby. It’s not good for you to be depressed…It makes your chances of post-pregnancy depression much higher… you need to have the meds going before the baby comes. Trust me..some woman who don’t take their meds end up hurting their babies. Just get on something!
